Next Wednesday at 7:30pm in southern states the Seven Network takes another plunge into a prime time footy show. This time former Network Ten personality Peter Helliar will take the reins and be joined by AFL experts and Seven commentators Matthew Richardson and Leigh Matthews.
The show will also feature Catherine Ellis, a former ABC presenter. Her role on the new show will be as a reporter. She will be joined by Kath & Kim favourite Pete Rowsthorn and former Nick TV presenter Dave Lawson who both be part of what Seven describes as “the ensemble”.
Similar to Jay Leno’s tonight show, ‘the Bounce’ will feature Kit Warhurst & band  live in the studio each week. This should give a new aspect to footy shows (both NRL & AFL) in this country and it will be interesting to see the audience reaction.
With the next broadcast rights for the AFL to be decided soon, Seven is adding another layer to its football offering no doubt to please viewers and also position itself strongly against what many suspect will be a Nine/Foxtel (Fox Sports) bid for the rights against Seven/Ten.
We shall know in a few weeks whether this combination of “gags, stunts and live crosses around the country, while in studio our world of footy will be dissected for the viewer’s pleasure” will resonate with viewers.
The Bounce premieres next Wednesday at 7:30pm in southern states. The show will air at 12:30am Thursday in Sydney and Brisbane. Meanwhile, Seven’s NRL answer to Nine’s Footy Show, ‘The Matty Johns Show’ will premiere next Thursday at 7:30pm in Sydney and Brisbane. It will be interesting to see how Matty Johns is received after last year’s scandal.
