According to the overnight ratings 1.21 million Australians tuned in to watch Victoria Azarenka take out the 2012 Australian Open Women’s Singles crown. This gave Seven a 25.9% audience share.
This share was down on the 2011 ratings for the Women’s final, where 1.68 million watched Kim Clijsters beat Li Na. This is no surprise given Australia’s love affair with ‘Aussie Kim’ and the then possibility of China winning its first Grand Slam title.
For the men, last year’s final had 1.38 million viewers, it will be interesting to see whether Djokovic v Nadal gather more viewers tonight compared to Djokovic v Murray last year. The ratings for the semi finals earlier in the week would seem to suggest so.
