The world’s greatest annual sporting event is nearly here. For the next three weeks, the world’s best road cyclists will cover 3,479km of difficult terrain, as they compete in the 100th edition of le Tour de France.
For Australian viewers, live coverage will once again be delivered by SBS. Michael Tomalaris will front SBS’s coverage with commentary from ‘the voice of cycling’ Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwen and Australia’s Matt Keenan. Gabriel Gate will also return with taste le tour.
SBS ONE’s coverage will begin at 10PM (AEST) for stages 1 to 20, with coverage kicking off at 2AM for the final stage in Paris (it is a night finish in Paris for the first time). On rest days, SBS will broadcast a new live panel show, bringing viewers up-to-date with all the latest news and views on the race. There will also be daily highlights at 7:30AM and 6PM on SBS ONE.
SBS’s coverage is not only on TV but also online and via the Skoda Tour Tracker app. The app delivers a raft of second screen experiences such as a live tour tracker, team profiles and race results. Sam Pang will also return with the Sag Wagon podcast.
Meanwhile, Fox Sports have announced that it will broadcast a new one-hour nightly panel show, the Subaru Le Tour Prologue, immediately before each stage at 9:30PM. Fox Sports no longer has replay rights to le Tour, after SBS secured exclusive tour rights.
It is all set for a fantastic Tour de France. Lets hope Cadel Evans can wear the maillot jaune on the final stage for a second time.
